WoW Forever economy changes vs Classic
What you already know from Classic, and what you have to relearn for Forever. Every change below is sourced and labelled — Official, Dev confirmed, Datamined, Community report or Unknown — so you can tell announcements from client data from guesses.
The short answer
What carries over, what doesn't
- Your Classic materials knowledge mostly holds.
- 328 items from the original game are still in the Forever client, with the same names. Ore, herbs, cloth and leather remain the base of the economy.
- Your Classic recipe knowledge is incomplete.
- 840 crafting recipes exist in Forever that Classic never had — concentrated in Leatherworking, Blacksmithing and Tailoring — plus 838 new items to make and trade.
- Three rules of the economy are different.
- No WoW Token, no paid boosts, and a Camping system that puts profession workspaces in the open world. Blueprints add a recipe source Classic didn't have at all.
- Prices are the one thing nobody knows.
- Forever's markets don't exist yet. ForeverEcon starts tracking them at launch; until then this page is about supply, demand and mechanisms, not numbers.

Confidence Low
- Advanced leather goods supply↓
If advanced Leatherworking needs a campsite object, crafting capacity depends on access to a Tanning Rack rather than on materials alone — a bottleneck that could limit supply early on.
Likely affected:LeatherCrafted GearLeatherworking
Why not higher: How easily the rack is learned and placed hasn't been published. · Our interpretation, not confirmed game behavior.
Camping connects professions to the open world
Official source: Directly published on a Blizzard-owned source.A Basic Campfire creates a campsite with vendors, repairs, profession workspaces and one-hour buffs. Nearby players can add up to three crafted objects — one per player, sharing a one-hour cooldown.
Three campsite objects per profession
Official source: Directly published on a Blizzard-owned source.Every profession has three campsite objects learned at different skill levels. The first are learned at skill 20, from camping NPCs or profession trainers.
Cooks build bigger campfires
Official source: Directly published on a Blizzard-owned source.Cooking can make upgraded Campfires that allow five or ten objects at a camp.
Most campsite objects are unnamed
Unknown: An economically relevant question whose answer has not yet been established. With three objects per profession, most campsite objects — including every one for Enchanting, Engineering, Mining and Skinning — have not been named.
Recipes & crafting
New crafts, and how many of them each profession gets.
840 new recipes are readable in the beta client
Datamined: Found in game or client data, but not officially announced.Diffing the Forever beta client's data tables against Classic Era finds 840 crafting recipes that don't exist in Classic Era, led by Leatherworking (245), Blacksmithing (177) and Tailoring (164).
Note: Datamined by ForeverEcon from build 1.60.1.70009 via wago.tools. Blizzard's own figure is “600+”.

Confidence Medium
- Material demand↑
- Crafted goods supply↑
840 additional recipes create new material sinks. Leatherworking, Blacksmithing and Tailoring receive the most, so leather, ore and cloth are the likeliest to see new demand.
Likely affected:LeatherOre & MetalClothLeatherworkingBlacksmithingTailoring
Why not higher: Client data can change before launch, and how many players craft these is unknown. · Our interpretation, not confirmed game behavior.
600+ new recipes

Crafted food grants XP and stats
Official source: Directly published on a Blizzard-owned source.Crafted food is adjusted to grant a small experience bonus as well as stat boosts.

Confidence Medium
- Cooking demand↑
- Raw fish & meat demand↑
An XP bonus gives crafted food a use during leveling, not just raiding, which could widen demand for food and the raw ingredients behind it while players are leveling.
Likely affected:ConsumablesReagentsCookingFishing
Why not higher: Blizzard describes the bonus only as “small”, so how much players value it is unknown. · Our interpretation, not confirmed game behavior.
Size of the crafted-food XP bonus
Unknown: An economically relevant question whose answer has not yet been established.Blizzard describes the bonus only as “small”. The exact amount has not been published.
Gathering & supply
What changes about how materials enter the economy.
Bountiful Harvest raises gathering yield
Official source: Directly published on a Blizzard-owned source. The Legacy talent Bountiful Harvest increases materials gathered from Mining, Herbalism or Skinning.
BlizzardBlizzard Entertainment(opens World of Warcraft: Forever Deep Dive Panel Recap in a new tab)Verified Sep 18, 2026Economy impact
Confidence Medium
- Supply↑
More materials per node means more raw supply entering the economy, if the talent is widely taken. Gathering time per unit falls, which usually pushes raw material prices down relative to crafted goods.
Likely affected:Ore & MetalHerbsLeatherMiningHerbalismSkinning
Why not higher: Player adoption is unknown, and the yield increase hasn't been quantified. · Our interpretation, not confirmed game behavior.
Gold, sinks & trade rules
How gold enters and leaves, and where trade happens.
No WoW Token
Dev confirmed: Direct statement from a Blizzard developer, including interviews hosted by reputable third parties.Forever will not have the WoW Token, so gold cannot be bought with real money through the game.
Note: Stated by Blizzard developers in an interview published by Wowhead.
Dev interviewWowhead(opens No WoW Token or Boosts & The Future of Forever — Destin interview with Blizzard in a new tab)Verified Sep 18, 2026Economy impact
Confidence Low
- Gold supply?
Without a Token, gold cannot enter through purchases — every coin is farmed. How that affects price levels depends on gold generation rates, player behavior and how much gold leaves through sinks.
Why not higher: Price levels depend on far more than the Token; this removes one mechanism, not the whole picture. · Our interpretation, not confirmed game behavior.
No paid character boosts
Dev confirmed: Direct statement from a Blizzard developer, including interviews hosted by reputable third parties.Forever will not sell character boosts.
Note: Same developer interview as the WoW Token statement.
Four rulesets
Official source: Directly published on a Blizzard-owned source.Normal, PvP and Roleplaying rulesets at launch; Hardcore arrives after launch. Horde and Alliance remain separate and cannot group.
Legacy Points are account-wide
Official source: Directly published on a Blizzard-owned source. At launch each character can spend up to 16 points in its Legacy Trees, from up to 65 Legacy Points. Collections and Legacy Points are account-wide across rulesets, except Hardcore.
Reagent Economy removes class reagents
Official source: Directly published on a Blizzard-owned source. The Legacy talent Reagent Economy removes reagent requirements from class abilities.
BlizzardBlizzard Entertainment(opens World of Warcraft: Forever Deep Dive Panel Recap in a new tab)Verified Sep 18, 2026Economy impact
Confidence Medium
- Vendor reagent demand↓
- Recurring gold sink↓
Class reagents are bought from vendors, so gold spent on them leaves the economy. Removing the requirement removes both that demand and that gold sink for characters who take the talent.
Why not higher: Adoption is unknown, and reagent spending is a small share of total gold outflow. · Our interpretation, not confirmed game behavior.

Blueprints
Forever's boss-dropped recipes — a system Classic never had.
Blueprints drop from dungeon bosses
Official source: Directly published on a Blizzard-owned source.Advanced Blueprint recipes drop from dungeon bosses.
BlizzardBlizzard Entertainment(opens World of Warcraft: Forever Deep Dive Panel Recap in a new tab)Verified Sep 18, 2026Economy impact
Confidence Low
- Dungeon farming↑
- Recipe scarcity↑
Tying recipes to boss drops makes crafting access scarce and uneven: whoever holds a Blueprint has a temporary monopoly on what it makes, and its inputs gain demand.
Why not higher: No Blueprint has been named and drop rates are unknown, so the size of any effect is unknowable today. · Our interpretation, not confirmed game behavior.
Which Blueprints exist, and who drops them
Unknown: An economically relevant question whose answer has not yet been established. No Blueprint has been named and no boss-to-Blueprint list has been published.
Note: Creature loot has never been part of the client's data tables in any WoW version, so which boss drops which Blueprint can't be datamined — it becomes known through play. We can read Forever's recipes and items from the client; their drop sources aren't there.
